"The Forgotten Man", by Amity Shlaes

It was either this, or re-read "The Communist Manifesto", by Karl Marx, or "Atlas Shrugged", by Ayn Rand, which by the way — now we know it only take 50 years for fiction to become fact.

"Fallen Angels", by Pournelle and Niven

I kept reading about references to a 'Fallen Angels' scenario — now I know why!

"The Last Colony", by John Scalzi

This is a sequel to the sequal to "Old Man's War". Ripping yarn.

"Anathem" by by Neal Stephenson

Discovered Stephenson when I found a copy of Cryptonomicon at the Paperbacks Plus on La Vista. Fantastic writer.

Over the Trip to China

"Next", by Michael Chrichton

Started it on the trip and I'm still reading. I've been on a Chrichton kick since I picked up "Prey" from my shelf — I'd bought it years earlier when it came out in paperback, but there it lay — and started reading. Followed that with "State of Fear" and now "Next".

"Areas of My Expertise", by John Hodgman

Started it on the trip and didn't quite finish. Book now resides on the coffee-table. Funny in a quiet, random and unusable way. No actual information is provided, but the List of Hobo Names is ... useful.

"The Ghost Brigades", by John Scalzi

This is a sequel to "Old Man's War". I really enjoy these books. This type of Sci-Fi reminds me of being in school right around 1970, and the library at Vanston, and all of the great Heinlein books I read there.
